BeezAdult Spelling Bee

The second annual spelling bee for adults will be conducted in October by the Wimberley Village Library and its Friends organization.

Sponsors, who will provide three-person teams to compete in the bee, are now being sought.

The cost of sponsorship is $100 per team, and that fee will cover the price of lunch for team members.

The bee is set at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 28 at the Wimberley Community Center.

The event is a fund-raiser to support various library projects.

“Any organization or group can field a team,” said Carolyn Manning, library director. “Businesses, churches, civic groups, schools – all are welcome to participate. What they will win is a big trophy and bragging rights, along with the publicity associated with being the best spellers in the area.”

The library’s first adult spelling bee was conducted last year, and 15 teams were involved. This year, the goal is to have more than 20 teams in competition.

Words for the spellers will come from lists compiled by the Scripps Howard Foundation, sponsor of the well-known National Spelling Bee. Click here to download the list.

In addition to seeking team sponsors, the bee directors are seeking individuals or businesses who would like to sponsor letters of the alphabet at $10 per letter.

To participate or to get more information, please contact Ms. Manning or Carroll Wilson, circulation librarian, at 512-847-2188.
