The Friends of the Wimberley Village Library has seven standing committees. Temporary committees will be created as needed for specific projects. All members of FOWVL are encouraged and welcomed to be members of any of the committees. The standing committes and current chairs are:
The Book Sales Committee is responsible for sorting and categorizing donated items in preparation for the annual book sale. They also are responsible for planning, organizing and publicizing the annual sale, which is the Friends' largest fundraiser. Proceeds provide funding for Friends and library events and for library resources and services
The Budget Committee is charged with planning the budget of the FOWVL for the upcoming year. The chair of this committee is always the current treasurer of the Board. Additional Budget Committee members are typically the current president and the past president of the Board of Directors.
The Garden Committee was established in 2011 as a result of outdoor donations given in honor of an individual, living or deceased. This committee is charged with planning for future development of the area behind the library building, reviewing all requests for gifts, and procuring all landscape and hardscape additions to the garden. After a brief period of inactivity due to drought conditions, work on the garden area has resumed, thanks to the assistance of the Master Naturalists of Wimberley under the direction of Friends member Chris Middleton.
The Membership Committee is responsible for recruiting members, maintaining membership records, providing an accurate and up-to-date roster of all members of FOWVL, and organizing the annual meeting of the general membership in April.
The Publicity Committee informs the public about all upcoming Friends events and services through newspaper articles, the webpage, posters and displays and occasional mailers. This committee also prepares, prints and disseminates the FOWVL newsletter biannually.
The Special Events Committee is charged with directing any of the special events of FOWVL as well as helping the library plan and execute their special events.
The Volunteers and Youth Activities Committee is in charge of recruiting volunteers and helping the library plan events for the youth, in particular, the Summer Program Kick-off Celebration. They also plan and organize the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon and special recognition and appreciation treats and gifts for the summer junior volunteers.
The Historian is charged with keeping a record, both written and pictoral (when appropriate), of all important FOWVL events. These include those in which the board participates with the Library, as well as with the community. (Not a "standing committee", but an appointed position that need not necessarily be staffed by a member of the board)
