Youth Services Librarian
Emily got on board with the Wimberley Village Library when she was fourteen
years old. She worked as a volunteer for
two years and then as a part of the staff for two more. Upon graduating from high school, she spent a year volunteering with a nonprofit: a child sponsorship program called, IChooseYou, located in Uganda. Her time in East Africa increased her love for children and for education. Now she is back at the library – this time as the Youth Services Librarian. She loves spending so much of her time around two of her favorite things: kids and books! She is currently working toward a bachelor’s of English degree at Texas State University.
As a part-time librarian and part-time student, she doesn’t have a lot of extra time for reading. Audiobooks have become her best friend, helping to squeeze in reading time during car rides.
She adores books about real life, historical fiction, stories about people in other countries and biographical adventures. She has recently discovered the world of humorous biographies, which has been a delightful addition to her life. Classics are also important to her, as is anything that has ever made it on the banned-book list. She also enjoys children’s books, especially Harry Potter, Roald Dahl’s, and her all-time favorite book, The Secret Garden by Francis Hodgson Burnett.
But even more, she loves books about travel because they can transport you to another place. She enjoys learning about different cultures and places, but her favorite part of travel literature is always the people the adventurers encounter along their journey.
Favorite travel books are: Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, A Walk with Jane Austen by Lori Smith and A Walk Across America by Peter Jenkins
When she is not reading (which she likes) or studying (which she doesn’t like), you can find her taking walks, painting or exploring museums. She has one pet, Glinda the Good Fish. She loves meeting new people. She’d love to meet you!
Favorites: Children’s books, biographies, travel literature, classic literature, historical fiction, audiobooks and humor.
