Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ’s

Who may use the library?

Anyone may use the library during regular business hours free of charge. You will find current best-sellers, encyclopedias, children’s books, CD-ROM databases, large print books, movies, music, and genealogy materials. All residents of Texas are entitled to a free borrower’s card. Library cards can be replaced for a fee of $1. Wimberley Village Library is a TexShare participant.

What Library resources are available for borrowing?

Library patrons can borrow up to 20 books and 3 books on tape for three weeks with renewal privilege available unless others are waiting for the material. New books and other items in short supply may be limited in quantity per checkout. Back issues of magazines, video tapes, DVD’s, CD’s, and CD players can be checked out for seven days. Paperback books are traded or borrowed for an indefinite time; just let us count those at the circulation desk.

How do I get a library card?

Fill out an application form at the circulation desk and present your driver’s license or similar identification. Minors need the signature of a legal guardian to complete the application form. The library card will be readied for your immediate use. Just present the library card or your photo ID to borrow materials.

What are the policies on overdue materials?

Audio-visual materials such as CD books and DVDs are charged 25 cents per item for every day they are overdue.  All other items are charged 10 cents a day per item for every day they are overdue.

What other services are available at the library?

Is the book you want checked out? Place it on reserve: on a first come, first serve basis, that title will be put aside for you. You can even place reserves online and the library staff will put them aside for you.  You will be notified as soon as it arrives. You will have three days to pick up the materials before it is passed on to the next patron who has it on reserve.

The Wimberley Village Library can arrange to borrow items from other libraries on interlibrary loan for your convenience. There is a waiting period of at least two weeks, and our patrons are asked to pay $2 to defray the cost of postage.

What computer services do you offer?

Ten workstations offering high-speed Internet access, are available to library visitors for one hour periods.  One of the eight workstations is for “quick use” and may be used for 15 minutes at a time.

Wi-Fi access is available for library patrons who desire to utilize their own laptop or hand held devices within the library. Your computer must be equipped with a 802.11 b or g wireless card to utilize this service. For assistance in setting up this service, please contact the circulation desk.

Are there any Children’s programs at the library?

Toddler Time

Every Monday, at 10:30 am. It’s designed for children between the ages of 0 to 3 years old and their caregivers. Toddler Time typically includes singing, one children’s story, a fingerplay, an easy craft related to the theme of the day, and perhaps a flannel board activity. This is the perfect space to introduce your young children to the fresh concepts of interacting with books.

Pre-School Story Time

Every Fridayat 10:30 a.m. It’s designed for children between the ages of 3 to 5 years old and their caregivers. Story Time typically includes two children’s stories, a song and fingerplay, an easy craft related to the theme of the day, and perhaps a flannel board activity. Discuss story time with your child before you come. Let him or her know they are expected to sit and listen while the story is being read, but also there will be time to sing, make a craft, visit with friends, and select some books to check out. Stay close and enjoy the stories too.

Discovery Club

A weekly science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) initiative at the Wimberley Library. For children ages 5-8. Every program is unique, exciting, and educational.

How do I know if my child is old enough to participate?

If your child has moved beyond looking at the pictures alone in a children’s book and can understand the story told in the words and pictures of a children’s book, your child is probably ready. Discuss story time with your child before you come. Let him or her know they are expected to sit and listen while the story is being read, but also there will be time to sing, make a craft, visit with friends, and select some books to check out. Stay close and enjoy the stories too.
