Ricky Linex, retired NRCS wildlife biologist, will discuss land stewardship and the first step in developing a relationship with land – knowing what has happened in the past, what is happening now, and where the land is headed. He recently retired from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) where he worked for 38.5 years. Over those years he assisted landowners and educated them on how to better manage rangelands for sustainable use. Ricky is the author of Range Plants of North Central Texas, A Land User’s Guide to their Identification, Value

Who is a land steward? It’s a person who manages the land entrusted to them in ways that benefit not only themselves but future generations and the greater society. Your land has a lot to say about what has happened in the past, what is happening now, and where the land is headed. “Reading your land” is the first step in forming a more intimate relationship with your property as you begin to formulate a plan for managing it.
