This afternoon Pat Galvin and Carroll Wilson will be introducing teen patrons to our first-ever go-kart review and rebuild project at the library.
The library already has the go-kart with a four-cycle engine, and the teens will have an opportunity to get hands-on experience trouble-shooting and getting it running well. Some on the team will also be asked to make the project the subject of a short movie that will be entered in the Wimberley Film Festival next January.
Then when the go-kart is ready to roll it will be driven in the July 4th parade and then sold at auction to the highest bidder.
The goal of the whole project is to give the teens some skills they may never have been exposed to on a project they’d never encounter anywhere else and have a certificate at the end of the build to show college recruiters and entrance officers they can think outside the box.
Today’s first session is at 2 p.m. and ends at 4 p.m.
