The new Wimberley Big Band had a free dance Sunday at the Community Center, giving us a preview of what we can expect when the band plays another gig specifically to benefit the library Foundation’s fund-raising drive for our expansion project.

An overflow crowd enjoyed the music, conducted by Doug Gillory and featuring nearly two dozen professional musicians.

Tickets are now on sale at the library front counter and at King Feed for the fund-raiser on Nov. 11. If you buy tickets in advance they are $25 apiece. At the door, they will be $30. All funds go to the foundation because the band members are donating their time and talent for this purpose. Only 200 tickets are being sold.

At the event, besides dancing, attendees can bid on silent-auction items and enjoy soft drinks the library will provide.

The dance will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Community Center. And — an update — the Center now has an upgraded sound system that’s made a huge difference in the quality of the show.

At the Sunday show.
